Welcome to the Letten Lab for Microecological Systems research at the University of Queensland. Our research aims to understand the processes regulating the stability of (micro-)ecological communities. We combine mathematical modeling with experiments to sharpen empirical inference whilst also grounding theory in reality. Our current research using synthetic and naturally occurring microbial assemblages (from the gut microbiome to nectar yeasts) offers exciting opportunities to increase our fundamental understanding of diversity maintenance, and to bring theoretical ecology to bear on problems of environmental and human health.
